Mr Kumar was professional, clear in his communication and inspired complete confidence. All aspects were first class and so it is difficult to make any reasonable suggestions for improvement

Mr Kumar was very kind, considerate and very calming in his manner. Nothing was to much trouble and he explained in great detail about my operation with complete honesty and reassurance. I could not have been treated any better if I had been royalty. His follow up before and after my surgery was brilliant and again genuinely caring all the way through my treatment and aftercare. I owe him my life and I will be eternally grateful

He me feel very safe is his care, he was friendly and efficient with my care and surgery. He was very helpful with the aftercare and has kept in touch to monitor my progress. If I have had any issues he has been there with advice. I would recommend seeing him due to his knowledge and expertises in acid reflux disease as he has helped me with getting my life back on track and how it should be and I will always be grateful.

I had my key hole hernia operation October 2018, Mr Kumar was caring and attentive at all our appointments, before and after my operation. I returned to work December 2018, with no heavy lifting, January 2019 I was back to Pilates and the gym. The little scars are very neat and fading monthly. I would most certainly have Mr Kumar operate on me again should it ever be necessary.

I had a hernia which was misdiagnosed in the initial ultrasound when I arrived with Mr Kumar. He was unhappy with the images and the vagueness of the diagnosis and sent me for a follow up ultrasound with a specialist he trusted. This was an excellent catch by Mr Kumar because the new ultrasound revealed the problem was in a quite different part of my abdomen and the second ultrasound was an uninvasive method of finding this out. The keyhole operation subsequently performed was extremely successful, I was quickly back at work after a fortnight and within 4 weeks I was barely aware of any discomfort following the procedure. Mr Kumar was pleased with my progress in the follow up consultation and since the operation I have been in frequent contact by text message and telephone with him. He goes above and beyond any required aftercare to ensure that I am well and my recovery is proceeding as expected. When it is me that texts him, he invariably contacts me back very shortly afterwards. I was afraid of the operation and I found Mr Kumar to be kind but also reassuringly confident in his own ability. I have found all encounters with him to be extremely professional but also I would consider our relationship to be an extremely friendly one. I would recommend him to anyone considering calling on his expertise.

Profile

I am trained in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, specialising in the treatment of oesophagogastric cancer, gallbladder disease, hiatus hernia repair and anti-reflux surgery as well as open and laparoscopic hernia repair. I also have significant experience in performing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.

I have been a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgeon at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital since 2014. I qualified from Leeds University Medical School and completed a two year doctorate in medicine (MD) before entering higher surgical training in Yorkshire and the North East of England. I was privileged to gain a vast amount of expertise in the specialist resection of oesophagogastric (OG) cancer in one of the largest OG cancer centres in Europe, the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne under the supervision of Professor SM Griffin OBE. Following completion of my surgical training, I was chosen for an overseas fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery with Prof. David Watson at Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, Australia.

In my work in the NHS, I have led the development of an emergency gallbladder surgery service at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital, improving patient access to prompt treatment of biliary conditions. Alongside busy clinical work, I am involved in postgraduate surgical teaching and training. My research interests include the management of oesophagogastric cancer as well as biliary and upper gastrointestinal diseases.

I have co-authored a leading textbook for the post-graduate FRCS examination in general surgery and have been an invited reviewer for surgical journals.

In all of my work, my primary commitment is to the patient and ensuring they receive the best possible care. My approach to patient care was recognised by the Eastern Daily Press sponsored Norfolk and Norwich Hospital awards when I reached the final round of nominations for the 'Patient Choice- Most Outsanding Individual Member of Staff 2017'.
